We were hired by the IOM DTM team in Ukraine to rethink their website that tracks displacement data for policy makers.

Background

The war in Ukraine triggered a displacement crisis. For the past few years, it's been crucial for policy makers and non-profits on the ground to get accurate data on migrant flows. That's where the IOM Displacement Matrix comes in—the DTM team works relentlessly to collect and share the latest figures on the internally displaced and the returnees. Making that data accessible online is no small feat, so they hired us to rethink the user experience of their website and to redesign the graphics that go along with it.

Impact

While the redesigned page hasn't been developed and deployed online yet, the impact of this project spans way beyond a few final web screens. We spent a lot of time defining the different audiences the IOM team works with and their needs. We then used those audience profiles to create a new, clearer user journey and information hierarchy. We formalised this goldmine of insights for the DTM Ukraine agents to keep and use in the future. We also facilitated a training for the local team on data visualisation best practices.
